Frosthold

What it does

A sound pack for AudioModern’s SoundBox built around a frozen, permanently dark setting: 50 presets of moving pads, mysterious textures and cold atmosphere. Each preset stacks several sample lanes, tagged in the browser as pads, textural layers and Arctic effects, so wind, chimes, distant rattles and bass layers can be soloed or muted individually. Several carry delays and reverbs from SoundBox’s own effects rack, and the mod wheel arrives mapped to a filter that can be reassigned. The whole library is a single 741 MB file with no separate FLAC download.

In the demo

Jade opens with two instances panned wide under Spacewalk, then plays every one of the 50 presets, splitting layers apart on a few to show what is stacked and adding an arpeggiator to a pad to show how differently it can read.

Worth knowing

SoundBox is free but needs one AudioModern pack purchase before importing and pack building unlock. Packs bought on desktop can be imported into the iPad version, though not the reverse, so buy on the platform that matters. Everything here is slow and atmospheric, with nothing rhythmic or conventionally melodic.
