Frostbite

What it does

A spectral freezing effect with three modules: a freeze, a ring modulator and a feedback delay. The freeze holds a sound in place using one of four engines, spectral, reverb, convolution or granular, with decay up to infinite, width and a three band EQ. The modules reorder by dragging, run in series or in parallel, and an LFO routes to any of their parameters.

In the demo

Jade builds a slow piano, strings and twelve string guitar arrangement, then freezes the piano through each of the four engines in turn so the differences are audible on one source. She compares serial and parallel routing, adds the ring modulator and delay, runs presets, and ends singing into it live.

Worth knowing

It is aimed at textures and drones rather than tidy mix work, and the freeze buffer takes handling to keep under control. A desktop build for Mac, Windows and Linux is sold separately by AudioThing.
