Fragmented Chants for FRMS

What it does

An in-app expansion for FRMS, Imaginando’s four-layer granular, FM, additive and subtractive synth, built entirely from voices. The named presets run from ethereal chants and whispered lines to spectral echoes, vocal pads and harmonic drones, all reshaped by the granular engine. Behind those sits a second block of chord presets, major sixths, minor sixths, major sevenths and suspended sevenths among them, each mapped so one key sounds the whole chord.

In the demo

Jade buys the pack from the store page inside FRMS, then plays through the named sounds one by one from a keyboard, holding notes and using glide. She solos individual layers to show which part of a waveform the grains are reading, and finishes in the chord section, sampling a few of each type rather than playing them all.

Worth knowing

Jade points out this pack holds a good deal more than the other FRMS packs, largely because of the chord block, which is a different proposition to the sound design packs. FRMS itself is a separate purchase, and these are granular vocal textures rather than a conventional choir library.
