Echo Cube

What it does

A dual delay based on the Cooper Time Cube, a 1971 unit that made echo by sending sound through coiled tubes rather than tape or electronics. Two delay lines each have time, feedback, level and host sync, with three tube models and five routing modes: serial, parallel, ping-pong, mono sum and mid-side. A hidden panel under the delay line assembly adds a comb filter, noise, an envelope gate and phase inversion per line.

In the demo

Jade starts from the init patch, which recreates the hardware at 14 and 16 milliseconds, stretches the times out, walks the routing diagrams, and demonstrates the send switch that holds whatever is already circulating in the feedback loop. She runs presets on drums, on guitar and on a live vocal.

Worth knowing

The stock character is a short doubling echo rather than a long wash, though the times open up well past the original. A desktop version is sold separately on the AudioThing site.
