Decent Sampler

What it does

A sample player rather than a sampler: it loads Decent Sampler libraries instead of recording your own. A browse page lists libraries from an in-app store, most of them free and some paid, while a file page installs zips downloaded from the developer’s site or Patreon. Each library carries its own small control set, so one instrument offers chorus, reverb and tone where another offers only reverb. Global settings cover volume, tuning, MIDI learn on any knob, pitch bend range, tuning maps and how much memory the engine takes.

In the demo

Jade installs a guitar library from a zip, stars it as a favourite, then loads a choir and a glockenspiel to show how different each instrument panel is. She opens with a piece made in Logic from several of these libraries and closes on a run through the sounds.

Worth knowing

An account is needed to download from the store inside the app. Jade says it has been buggy for a long time while still getting regular updates and new instruments. Anyone who wants to record and map their own samples needs a different app.
