Cinepads

What it does

A pad library for AudioModern’s SoundBox sampler, the first volume of a planned series, aimed at film, games, meditation and live use. Patches layer textures with heavy internal modulation, and a soft Yamaha grand was recorded for the pack so textures can be played against a real piano. Layers can be muted or replaced as in any SoundBox pack.

In the demo

Jade plays the patches from a keyboard in AUM, holding chords while the modulation moves in the display below. She picks out Romantic Combination, Zenith, Equinox and Life Spectrum, spends a while on the soft piano, and notes that installed packs do not turn up under SoundBox’s category tabs.

Worth knowing

The samples are uncompressed and the download is large. The developer told Jade on air that some iPads hit performance limits while Mac and PC are fine, and she crashed Logic loading a second SoundBox instance, so her advice is to work track by track and freeze.
