Choric

What it does

A chorus that stacks up to 32 voices, with a filter and a pitch section in front of the modulation and a readout drawing what the voices are doing. The filter switches between low pass, band pass and high pass with resonance. Pitch moves in semitones with its own mix and a formant preserve, which holds the character of a voice while the pitch shifts. Rate, depth, looseness, spread, stereo width and phase shape the movement, several waveform shapes plus a dark or warm setting colour it, and a dice button randomizes everything.

In the demo

Jade puts it on a sampled acoustic guitar and moves through the sections one at a time, then works the preset banks, which are sorted by instrument. She runs it over drum and melody loops in Loopmix, a piano sequenced by Euclidean, synth patches, and finally her own voice, where the formant control and the filters are easiest to follow.

Worth knowing

Pushed hard it doubles as a pitch shifter and a slap back thickener, so the classic chorus presets are one corner of its range. Caelum Audio sells a desktop version from its own site.
