ButterSynth

What it does

A synth with six oscillators: two wavetables, a sampler, a four-operator FM engine, a granulator and a noise source. Each has unison, tuning, pan and a solo, and each routes to any of four envelopes and two filters. The wavetable editor draws and morphs frames with line, pen, brush and curve tools, and imports your own tables. Modulation runs through a matrix of 32 slots fed by four LFOs, a curve envelope, a step sequencer, an XY pad and macros, and any control can be assigned by holding it down.

In the demo

Jade starts from a plain sawtooth, adds unison voices, draws a row of wavetable frames and then morphs between them with an LFO and a curve envelope. She takes each oscillator in turn, sets key zones across the keyboard, and installs a third party preset pack from the Files app.

Worth knowing

Jade works on an iPad throughout, which was the only device supported at the time of the demo. The layout is dense and rewards patch building; anyone who wants to load a preset and play will spend a while finding what matters.
