The Book of Genesis for FRMS

What it does

An in-app expansion for FRMS, Imaginando’s layered granular, FM, additive and subtractive synth. The sources are live acoustic recordings of flutes, cello, harp, flugelhorn and accordion, granularized into pads, arpeggios, bells, drones and voices. Each preset runs up to four layers, each with its own sample, speed and direction, and any of them can be muted or swapped for your own file.

In the demo

Jade plays a mellow piece made from the pack, then loads one instance and works through the presets alphabetically on held notes, setting the project tempo for the ones that follow it. On a denser patch she opens the layers, reverses one, and mutes the rest to expose an Indian vocal underneath.

Worth knowing

It needs FRMS. The sounds here sit closer to playable than most FRMS packs, though everything still passes through the granular engine, so anyone wanting clean orchestral samples is in the wrong place.
