BLEASS Slow Machine

What it does

An AUv3 that slows incoming audio in quantised steps. A row along the bottom sets the speed, off, three quarters, two thirds, a half, a third or a quarter, and a loop length from one bar out to eight decides how long the change takes to arrive. A large stop button halts playback while held, with shapes beside it governing how the sound comes back, instantly or on a ramp. Its own speed and mix controls make a tape wobble. A drawable sequencer sets speed per step, and a dice randomises everything.

In the demo

Jade puts it across a finished mix in AUM, then on a DrumComputer pattern where the drum presets reshape the beat and reversed sequencer peaks read as a scratch. She sings into a live mic at a loop size of minus one sixteenth to get a cluster of notes from one held vowel, then runs it on a death metal vocal in GarageBand.

Worth knowing

In GarageBand the effect is only audible while the track is playing or recording, so monitoring alone gives nothing. It colours everything it touches.
