Big Swarma

What it does

A voice multiplier. It copies the incoming signal up to 16 times, then spreads the copies with a detune percentage, a max detune reaching a full octave, and stereo width. A sub dial adds low end, an FM control drives an internal oscillator tracking the input’s fundamental, and a feedback circuit runs as far as self-oscillation. Two MS-20 style filters, high pass and low pass with resonance and a shared master cutoff, sit after the swarm, with an LFO and envelope follower for modulation.

In the demo

Jade builds a drone from a Soundbox pad, then runs it on an arpeggio, drums, noise, live vocals and clean guitar. On guitar she settles on four voices with a small detune and sub, which lands close to an octaver.

Worth knowing

Jade hits a repeatable dropout in one channel with the mix at 100 percent, unresolved in the video. It is a desktop port, so the input, output and mix dials are small on a phone.
