Beautifully Broken

What it does

A lo-fi and vintage library for AudioModern’s SoundBox sampler, 50 presets built from custom lo-fi sound sources. Expect pops, cracks, reverses and heavy distortion rather than clean tones, with a nostalgic old-keyboard character running through it. Presets are labelled motion, where holding one key sets the movement going, or key split, where the halves of the keyboard hold different sounds. The mod wheel drives a filter on nearly all of them.

In the demo

Jade imports the pack through User Sounds and plays all 50 presets straight from a keyboard in AUM, with no effects added, so the samples are heard as they ship. She calls out which presets are motion and which are key splits as she goes, and shows what an MPE controller would add.

Worth knowing

Sold separately from Transmission, the other Triple Spiral pack in the same episode. SoundBox is free on iPad and desktop, though importing packs and editing them unlock only after one AudioModern pack is bought inside the app.
