Aural Alchemy for FRMS

What it does

An in-app expansion for FRMS, Imaginando’s four-layer granular, FM, additive and subtractive synth. Sound designer DMT Cymatics built it around psychedelic textures, cosmic tones and mystical atmospheres, a mix of mono and poly patches covering drones, pads, leads and arpeggiated tones. Most patches arrive with the mod wheel mapped, and several change character completely as it travels, so one preset covers a fair range on its own.

In the demo

Jade buys packs from the store page inside FRMS, then plays the patches one at a time, mostly holding a single key and riding the mod wheel. She solos layers to show which part of each waveform the grains are reading, flips a mono patch to poly, turns off a patch’s glide, and finishes by running three instances together in AUM.

Worth knowing

FRMS is a separate purchase and these patches sound like FRMS rather than like a conventional synth. Jade says outright they are not what she would reach for writing a straightforward pop song. She also hit crashes whenever she opened a fourth instance in AUM.
