AudioLayer

What it does

A multi-sampler from VirSyn that records, imports and edits samples, then maps them across the keyboard. Each instrument holds many layers, each with its own pitch, filter, level, LFO, envelope, zoning and velocity settings, and layers can be copied between instruments. It ships with a free sample library and an effects rack, and an in-app purchase at $9.99 adds sound font import. Owners of XinematiX packs can load those sounds here, edit them, and save the results back.

In the demo

Jade samples a guitar from a file, builds a drum kit by dragging a kick and a snare onto single keys, records a hardware synth and her voice straight in, and imports a downloaded sound font. She calls it an overview rather than a full walkthrough and runs short of time.

Worth knowing

It suits people building their own instruments, and there is a lot of saving and folder management to track. Anyone wanting a ready made instrument to play will be doing setup first.
