SWAM Trumpet

What it does

The B flat trumpet in Audio Modeling’s SWAM brass line, modelled rather than sampled, so tone answers the controller while the note sounds. Expression, dynamics, vibrato, growl, flutter tongue, breath noise and pitch sit on the panel and nearly all take MIDI learn. Mutes cover straight, cup and hand, and a timbre page reaches bell resonance, tuning and expressivity.

In the demo

Jade plays it from an Arturia KeyStep with an iRig standing in for an expression pedal, each parameter MIDI mapped to a knob. She marks where the plain trumpet starts and stops against the trumpet in C, flicks between the two on the same notes, then runs the factory presets.

Worth knowing

Sold on its own and inside a Trumpets bundle with the trumpet in C, the piccolo trumpet and the two flugelhorns. The differences between it and the trumpet in C are small, and sit at the ends of the range.
