SWAM Tenor Trombone

What it does

The tenor trombone in Audio Modeling’s SWAM brass line, modelled rather than sampled, so the note keeps answering the controller while it sounds. Expression, dynamics, vibrato, growl, flutter tongue and breath noise sit on the panel and nearly all take MIDI learn. A presets page holds mappings for wind controllers, MPE surfaces and GeoShred.

In the demo

Jade plays it from an Arturia KeyStep 37 with growl on a key and flutter tongue on a knob, then runs it up to the top of its range to measure the four semitones between it and the alto. She drops to its lowest note against the tenor bass trombone, with all five trombones open at once in AUM.

Worth knowing

Sold on its own and inside a Trombones bundle with the alto, tenor bass, bass and double bass trombones. The differences between neighbours in the line are small, so the ranges matter more than the timbre.
