SWAM Tenor Bass Trombone

What it does

The tenor bass trombone in Audio Modeling’s SWAM brass line, modelled rather than sampled, so tone tracks the controller for as long as the note lasts. Expression, dynamics, vibrato, growl, flutter tongue and breath noise sit on the panel and nearly all take MIDI learn. Mutes run straight, cup and hand, each with a distance control.

In the demo

Jade turns breath noise up on its own knob so the air into the valve can be heard, then works the mutes and moves the mute distance under a sounding note. She brings its lowest note against the plain tenor, where the heavier gravel in the timbre shows, then matches it note for note with the bass trombone.

Worth knowing

Sold on its own and inside a Trombones bundle with the alto, tenor, bass and double bass trombones. It overlaps heavily with its two neighbours, so the choice comes down to timbre rather than range.
