SWAM Flugelhorn

What it does

The flugelhorn in Audio Modeling’s SWAM brass line, modelled rather than sampled, so tone goes on tracking the controller while the note sounds. Expression, dynamics, vibrato, growl, flutter tongue, breath noise and pitch sit on the panel and nearly all take MIDI learn. Mutes cover straight, cup and hand, a timbre page reaches bell resonance and tuning, and presets can be saved, shared and loaded.

In the demo

Jade sets the flugelhorn against both trumpets and then against the E flat flugelhorn, where it comes out the brighter of the pair. She switches its MIDI preset to Seaboard default, connects GeoShred on the channel in AUM and plays it from the glass with BlackHole after it.

Worth knowing

Sold on its own and inside a Trumpets bundle with the trumpet, trumpet in C, piccolo trumpet and E flat flugelhorn. GeoShred covers the expression if there is no pedal or breath controller to hand.
