What it does
The double bass trombone in Audio Modeling’s SWAM brass line, modelled rather than sampled, so tone follows the controller for the length of the note. Expression, dynamics, vibrato, growl, flutter tongue and breath noise sit on the panel and nearly all take MIDI learn. Mutes cover straight, cup and hand, and the timbre page reaches bell resonance and micro tuning.
In the demo
Jade drives dynamics from an iRig Stomp IO volume pedal and puts vibrato on the mod wheel with pitch beside it. She takes the double bass trombone up to its top note, which arrives at the same place the bass trombone’s does, so what separates the two in the demo is timbre rather than reach.
Worth knowing
Sold on its own and inside a Trombones bundle with the alto, tenor, tenor bass and bass trombones. Its range overlaps the bass trombone almost entirely, so buying both is for colour.
