SWAM Cello Section

What it does

The cello section in Audio Modeling’s SWAM string line, modelled rather than sampled, with up to six cellos and divisi variations voiced apart from each other. Expression, velocity, vibrato, bow position, bow pressure, bow lift, tremolo, pizzicato, harmonics, alternative fingering and sordino all take MIDI learn, with templates for breath controllers, wind controllers, a Seaboard and GeoShred. The download is 154 MB, and the Ambiente room simulator is built in.

In the demo

Jade loads the cello first, to point out how small a modelled section is next to a sample library, and it is also the section she drives from GeoShred, picking the GeoShred template in the MIDI page so finger movement on the touch surface reaches vibrato and expression. It sits on the bottom track of her four part piece, and in the room view the cellos are placed low.

Worth knowing

Sold on its own, with a String Sections bundle covering all four. Each app must be opened standalone once and given local network access before the OSC room sharing works, and even then Jade hits a communication failure and reinstalls. A pedal or breath controller matters here.
