What it does
The bass trombone in Audio Modeling’s SWAM brass line, modelled rather than sampled, so the sound keeps responding to the controller while the note holds. Expression, dynamics, vibrato, growl, flutter tongue and breath noise sit on the panel and nearly all take MIDI learn. Mutes cover straight, cup and a hand mute that moves under a sounding note, and the timbre page reaches bell resonance and micro tuning.
In the demo
Jade assigns a sustain pedal to vibrato rather than sustain, then works the hand mute mid note. She takes the bass trombone as low as it goes with the floor pedal adding expression, and plays the same note on it and the tenor bass so the timbre split is audible.
Worth knowing
Sold on its own and inside a Trombones bundle with the alto, tenor, tenor bass and double bass trombones. Five instances alongside a reverb sat near 60 percent DSP on Jade’s iPad.
