Speldosa

What it does

Speldosa, Swedish for music box, is a music box instrument made with the Swedish artist Wintergatan, Martin Molin. Four presets, modern, vintage, antique and eternal, shift the box from bright to dense and dark, and eternal plays it in reverse. Behind them sit two room reverbs, a small room and a large one, each with its own level, plus a space amount and a master volume. Room size can also be switched from the host without opening the interface.

In the demo

Jade opens with three instances in AUM fed by generative MIDI apps, then plays one from the multi-touch strip on screen and from a keyboard. She walks the presets and both rooms, then puts it in GarageBand under a Pete Johns song, doubling his electric piano an octave up with FAC Althea after it.

Worth knowing

The control set is small on purpose, with nothing for tuning, envelopes or sample start. It makes no sound outside a host.
