RingsFX

What it does

A physical modelling resonator built on the ideas behind the Eurorack module Rings, with seven modes: modal, sympathetic strings, Karplus Strong, FM, chords, string verb and a synthesizer mode. Brightness, dampening, structure and position shape each one, and the resonator is set off by MIDI notes, an internal noise source, a built-in pulse sequencer or external audio fed through it as an effect. Two LFOs, four envelopes and a matrix route modulation, with onboard effects, global chorus, delay, reverb and overdrive, and an eight-band EQ.

In the demo

Jade moves through every synthesis mode with a single held note so the four main knobs are audible on each, adds the pulse sequencer under a held chord, then loads it as an effect so a drum machine drives the resonator instead of a keyboard.

Worth knowing

It makes plucked, struck and bowed textures rather than conventional synth patches, so anyone after pads or bass will be working against the engine.
