KA Mini NanXiao

What it does

A sampled NanXiao, a southern end-blown bamboo flute, in a standalone and AUv3 app of its own. It is the lowest of the flutes in this range, and a slight modulation creeps in when a note is held rather than sitting on a control. It is monophonic, so it plays single lines only. Volume, tone, reverb and pitch bend range are the only parameters, alongside a keyboard or wind instrument switch.

In the demo

Jade hunts for the bottom of its range and finds it lower than the others, then holds a note to show the wobble that arrives late in the sustain. She says she would rather have that modulation under her own hand than wait for it to turn up.

Worth knowing

That built-in modulation cannot be dialled in or up, and there is no vibrato control, so expression has to come from bend or from outside the app. It opens on wind instrument input every time. Sold separately from the other eight, or in the App Store bundle.
