What it does
A single sampled Chinese bamboo flute in a standalone and AUv3 app of its own. The DiZi is the transverse bamboo flute of the family, bright and reedy, and here it is monophonic, so chords will not sound. Controls are deliberately short: volume, a tone slider that trades brightness for breath noise, reverb, and a pitch bend range that goes up to twelve. A toggle switches between an onscreen keyboard and an electronic wind instrument, and tapping the picture shows the real instrument.
In the demo
Jade takes this one first, running the range, pushing the bend to its limit and turning the reverb all the way up. She plays it through AUM alongside the other eight, and later routes GeoShred into it as a control surface.
Worth knowing
It opens set to wind instrument every time, so keyboard players have to switch it over before anything sounds. There is no vibrato or modulation control, and GeoShred’s expression does not carry through. Each of the nine is sold on its own, with a bundle on the App Store.
