What it does
A passive high pass filter modelled on the Altec 969b, the stepped unit King Tubby used to sweep Jamaican dub mixes. The main knob moves in eleven frequency steps from 70 Hz to 7.5 kHz, with impedance adding resonance at the cutoff. Circuit controls for magnetism, character, dynamics and artifacts change the harmonics and the grit, and a switch picks between original and measured frequency sets. An LFO and an envelope follower can both drive the sweep, and there is a randomizer with per-parameter locks.
In the demo
Jade runs it across a reggae track, then jazz drums, bass and guitar, showing the sweep by itself before adding tempo-synced LFO shapes and transient-driven envelope moves. She also puts a spectrum analyzer beside it so the cutoff is visible as well as audible.
Worth knowing
It only cuts lows, so it has no use as a general tone shaper. The desktop version is a separate purchase from AudioThing at a higher price.
