DrumComputer

What it does

A drum machine whose eight tracks are synthesised rather than played back. Each is built from a wavetable section, a resonator and a resynth layer, any of which can be muted so one is heard alone, then distortion, compression and EQ. The sequencer adds playback direction, probability, rolls and displacement per track, with swing and humanize across the pattern, and a dice on nearly every panel rerolls just that section. Patterns chain in song mode, and MIDI or audio can be exported. The download is free, with the AUv3 version and the rest of the preset library behind an in-app purchase.

In the demo

Jade starts at the pads and mixer, randomizes tracks one at a time, then pins a pattern so kits can be swapped under it. She pulls one kick apart layer by layer, imports her own kick from AudioShare, and finishes inside GarageBand.

Worth knowing

A desktop version is sold separately by the developer and costs considerably more. The front page is dense, and most of the show goes on single drums rather than finished patterns.
