What it does

A two line sequencer of clicks, pulses and noise, modelled on a Hewlett-Packard word generator used as lab test equipment. The pulse line on top and the noise line underneath run across up to sixteen steps, each with its own volume, random, random cycle and invert, eight pattern slots, and forward or pendulum playback. The pulse line plays banks of short samples sourced from test gear, with a crossfade dial for moving between them, and four effects sit on the output: tape echo, octave filter, phaser and spring reverb.

In the demo

Jade sets patterns by hand, then hands them over to random cycle, imports a sample pack made for Noises into a bank of her own, and takes the rate off its division so it free runs into drone territory. She MIDI learns octave frequency, echo rate, phaser rate and crossfade onto a Minilab and plays it live.

Worth knowing

It makes blips and noise rather than notes, so melodic use means pitching the pulse line from a keyboard. Presets and sample banks are saved and exported separately.
