AAS Objeq

What it does

A resonator that listens to a microphone, or to any audio fed into it, and retunes what it hears into percussion. Beam, drumhead and plate resonator types sit alongside pitch, tone, position and mix controls, with a bypass at the top. Tapping a desk through the device mic comes out as conga, bongo or djembe like hits. As an AUv3 it works on any source rather than only live tapping, and its parameters are all exposed to the host.

In the demo

Jade sets a condenser mic behind her iPad and taps the desk, a coffee cup and a battery, then moves to what she says the app is really for, sitting after other apps. She runs it on Hammerhead, Drum Computer and a Neon loop in AUM, drops it onto two GarageBand drummer tracks and a microphone track, and puts it at the end of a synth chain for drones.

Worth knowing

It is a small app that has been on the store a long time without much change. Live tapping wants headphones and a quiet room, and the more useful route is as a resonator over drums or pads that already exist.
