Xequence 2

What it does

A MIDI sequencer, editor and arranger that makes no sound itself. Tracks sit on a timeline, each addressed to a MIDI destination and channel, so the sounds stay in AUM, Korg Gadget, other standalone apps or outboard hardware while this does the writing. It carries keyboards, drum pads and a scale list set per instrument, a piano roll editor with processes for quantize, legato, inversion and octave shifts, controller lanes for velocity, modulation and pitch, and clips that split, join, duplicate, or duplicate linked so an edit to one follows the others. MIDI files import through the Files app.

In the demo

Jade opens a bundled demo project, which stays silent until the matching Gadget project is loaded beside it, then builds a session from scratch in AUM with Scaler generating chords into a piano, strings, drums played in from a controller and a generative sequencer. She turns Ableton Link on first and loads the supplied drum pad map for Digistix.

Worth knowing

Setup has real steps, and the routing tangles Jade hits on air show where they are. An in-app purchase adds MPE and a few extra controls, which she treats as optional.
