WoodPeckr

What it does

A MIDI sequencer with four independent tracks of up to 64 steps, each holding four variations and its own time signature, feel, start mode and MIDI channel out. Steps carry mutes, skips, ratchets, note length, volume and a step time delta, most of them with their own probability, and a modulation lane per step can send CC, pitch and program changes or start, stop and switch other tracks. It sends MIDI 2.0 as well as MIDI 1.

In the demo

Jade drives Spelldozer from one track, building a pattern by hand and then layering randomisation, scale-limited random notes, ratchets and step delta on top. Later she routes three tracks to three instruments on separate MIDI channels and sends a CC lane to a reverb’s wet mix.

Worth knowing

It makes no sound of its own and it is not a generate-and-go tool, so it rewards setup time. Jade flags the All button as easy to leave on by accident, and the Mac version is a separate $39.99 purchase.
