Wind Chimes

What it does

A generative MIDI instrument that simulates wind blowing through up to 16 chimes and sends a note each time two collide. Wind strength, direction, turbulence, gust frequency and inertia shape the motion, and chimes can be tapped, held or dragged by hand. Each chime takes a note from the current scale or a free assignment, its own length and weight, a MIDI channel and CC output from its swing. Timing is free or quantized.

In the demo

Jade starts in standalone with the built-in sampler, then runs the AUv3 in AUM into a piano, where notes cut short until she holds the instrument’s sustain pedal. She routes chimes to four instruments on separate channels, sets CC ranges, and records into Helium.

Worth knowing

The AUv3 is MIDI only, so it needs an instrument in the host. The drag-to-set count control is fiddly, and Randomize clears per-chime notes, weights and channels.
