Wave Box

What it does

A dual waveshaper that runs the input through two shaping functions, picked from sine, linear, abs, invert, floor, round and ceiling. In asymmetrical mode the two handle the top and bottom halves of the waveform separately, giving a different harmonic set from symmetrical mode, where both apply across the whole signal. Bias mixes or offsets them, a ceiling sets their dynamic range, and two LFOs, an envelope follower and a filter modulate most parameters.

In the demo

Jade runs it on bass and drums, then builds a simple FM patch to hear the default distortion, switching between the two modes as the transport runs. She works through the presets on a Playbeat kit and finishes on a noise source.

Worth knowing

The modules sit in a fixed order and cannot be reordered, and a modulator cannot target another modulator. Oversampling above eight times raises DSP load. AudioThing sells a desktop version through their own site.
