Things - Fold

What it does

A wavefolder modelled on Serge-style wave multipliers. Instead of flattening peaks the way a clipper does, it folds them back on themselves, which generates harmonics that shift as the input level moves. Fold amount is joined by an envelope follower with attack and release, a feedback path switchable between pre and post, high pass and low pass filters, an LFO, oversampling and a soft clip stage. A randomizer with per-parameter locks throws new settings while holding chosen controls.

In the demo

Jade folds a set of harsh wave files first, then puts it across a Playbeat 3 drum pattern so the envelope follower pumps against the kick. She works the feedback in both positions, sweeps the filters, and finishes on drones and sustained tones.

Worth knowing

Output level climbs sharply as fold increases, so it wants a limiter and a careful hand. The desktop version is a separate purchase from AudioThing at a higher price.
