Thereminator 2

What it does

A virtual theremin, standalone and AUv3, played from an onscreen MPE surface or an MPE keyboard. A waveform dial runs from the theremin’s own tone through sine, triangle, saw, shark and several pulse widths, with drive, filter, resonator, vibrato, tremolo, chorus and delay around it. The vertical axis of the surface assigns to volume, filter, vibrato or tremolo, and a key and scale setting with a note snapping control covers everything from free glide to hard quantising. Presets, favourites, MIDI learn and a panic button follow the usual Yonac layout.

In the demo

Jade plays it by finger and from a keyboard, leaning on portamento to get closer to a theremin feel from keys. She runs the preset banks, then cannot arm the plugin for MPE recording in Logic and works around it by recording GeoShred as the controller.

Worth knowing

It is monophonic, so two lines mean two instances. MPE recording depends on the host exposing an MPE switch, which GarageBand has and Logic did not in this demo.
