Super J8 Synth

What it does

A polysynth modelled on the Roland Jupiter-8, running standalone or as an AUv3 on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and built from oscillators rather than samples. Two oscillators feed a cross modulation control, and around them sit three LFOs, one wired to the filter and two routable anywhere, two envelopes, unison up to eight voices with detune and spread, oscillator sync, a 16-step sequencer, an arpeggiator and an effects page with chorus, delay, reverb, compressor, saturation and lo-fi.

In the demo

Jade works from the init patch rather than the presets, pushing cross modulation hard and routing an LFO into it for grinding industrial textures. She sets up unison, detune and sync for bells and plucks, then plays through the preset banks.

Worth knowing

A later update added a native Mac build with AUv3, preset sync over iCloud, a QWERTY musical typing keyboard, microtonal and Scala tunings, a J8 chorus and VoiceOver support. Sync must be enabled per device in the standalone app. The two-row panel layout takes a minute to read: the top row picks a section and tapping it again cycles the panel beneath.
