Strange Loop

What it does

A generative instrument driven by three coupled Lorenz attractors: one proposes pitch, one shapes rhythm, one wanders a mood plane. A Markov policy then picks what plays, favouring consonant intervals and the current chord. It runs standalone, as an AUv3 instrument or as a MIDI processor, with 26 scales, seven accompaniment styles and separate MIDI channels for melody, chords and bass.

In the demo

Jade opens with it driving a four-instrument rig in AUM, then rebuilds a patch in standalone. She sets key and tempo, sweeps chaos, rhythm spread and grace notes, moves through the moods, and paints heat onto the attractor and mood pads to bend the trajectory.

Worth knowing

Nothing is looped or pre-recorded, so it suits generative work more than writing a fixed part. The free download is standalone only and AUv3 use needs the unlock. A free browser version runs at liquiduslabs.com, and the engine is shared with the developer’s Pendulums.
