Shapesynth

What it does

A polyphonic synth whose oscillator waveform you draw. The first half of the shape is 32 blocks and the second half mirrors it, and each oscillator holds up to 16 pages of shapes that it interpolates between. The two oscillators can be added, subtracted or multiplied, each with its own LFO aimed at pitch, duty cycle, page or filter. Around them sit a tape recorder with unlimited overdubs, an arpeggiator, stereo delay, a resonant filter, a looping sequencer with Euclidean note spacing, and modulation from the keyboard, MPE or the accelerometer.

In the demo

Jade works it out live, leaning on the built-in help panel to name each control. She draws shapes with a finger across several pages, imports a loop onto the tape and drags it back and forth by hand, then flicks the filter dot to leave the cutoff bouncing.

Worth knowing

She does not get the sequencer to trigger the tape the way she expects, so that routing stays unresolved in the video.
