Piano Motifs

What it does

Generates short motifs from a key, a scale, a chord progression and an accompaniment style, sending them out as MIDI. Output splits across three channels: melody, accompaniment, and a third carrying either a sustained chord or a root drone. Settings reach into triads, extended and secondary dominant chords, inversions, silent spots, octave range, bar count and melody constraints, and parts lock so a new generate keeps them. Saved motifs chain into a song on the arrange page, and anything exports as MIDI.

In the demo

Jade covers the update that added AUv3 as an in-app purchase, so it locks to the host playhead and tempo. She runs it in AUM into a piano, generates and loops a motif, then feeds one instance to a guitar and an orchestral app on separate MIDI channels. She builds an arrangement from saved motifs and records it live into Helium.

Worth knowing

It makes no sound by itself, so it needs an instrument on the receiving end and a host that passes MIDI between tracks. AUv3 and MIDI out are separate in-app purchases, and Jade says it does not send MIDI to GarageBand.
