PatternBud

What it does

An AUv3 MIDI sequencer that sends CC messages rather than notes, built to change patterns in other apps. Tracks each carry their own CC number and MIDI channel and default to CC10, the controller Cem Olcay’s Bud apps use for pattern switching. Steps hold a value and a length set in bars, beats, note values, seconds or minutes, and each one can stack actions: jump to a step or a random step, change to a chosen or random pattern, send note on, note off, a CC message or a program change. A send on start toggle fires an action at the top of a step.

In the demo

Jade chains four SnakeBud patterns from a four step track, then takes on a harder case, pairing note on and note off actions to work Hammerhead’s pattern buttons. She ends with a track on CC15 sweeping a synth’s resonance.

Worth knowing

It produces no audio and needs a host plus a target that exposes patterns to CC, notes or AU parameters. Apps that only switch at the end of a sequence lag a step behind, which Hammerhead does on camera.
