Nerd Synth

What it does

A virtual analog synth for iPhone and iPad, standalone and AUv3, with no hardware sample content in it. Two oscillators carry sine, triangle, square, saw and pulse, or a list of modelled sources including metal bars, vibrating bars and marimbas, each with level, tuning, fine tune and pan. Three LFOs with two destinations each feed a filter switchable between low pass, high pass and band pass, with a resonator and mod envelope alongside. Effects cover drive, heat, lo-fi bit reduction, unison, ring modulation, super FM drop, chorus, flanger, tremolo, delay and reverb, plus an arpeggiator, a step sequencer, keyboard splits and two XY pads.

In the demo

Jade runs five instances in AUM, then works the panels from an init patch, leaning on the readout that names every control as you turn it and sending one LFO to two destinations at once, before playing through the designer banks.

Worth knowing

A later update added a Deep Data Loops bank and a free horror preset bank of Jade’s own, which she walks through in a follow-up episode. The XY pads were new at recording, so earlier demos of the app do not show them.
