Mochizuki

What it does

A four-oscillator subtractive synth for iPhone, iPad and Mac, standalone and AUv3. Each oscillator runs in AM, FM or resonator mode and can chain modulation into the next. Two multimode filters with drive, four AADSR envelopes, global and polyphonic LFOs, 16 macros, MPE, a multi-effect rack and a 64-step arpeggiator with mono and poly program modes.

In the demo

Jade works through it in AUM from the init patch: oscillator waveforms, the four-slot modulation menu under every control, re-routing an oscillator around the filters, and the effects rack with reverb, chorus, compressor, EQ, saturator and delay. She then switches to FM and the resonator before playing arps, pads, bass and strings presets.

Worth knowing

Every core feature works for seven days, then a one-time in-app purchase unlocks it. With modulation on nearly every parameter, it rewards patient patch building; anyone wanting a preset-only synth will find more depth here than they need.
