MIDILODY

What it does

A generative MIDI sequencer that makes no sound of its own. It listens for notes, keeps the ones that fit the scale, velocity range, note range and note length you have set, and drops them into a ring of LEDs that fills one step at a time up to thirty two notes. Once the ring is full it loops, with variation running underneath so the line keeps shifting.

In the demo

Jade starts it against Pianoteq in AUM and lets it fill a sequence untouched, then pauses, taps out the notes she does not want and lets it search again. She records a loop to a file, walks the scale list and the filters, and finally routes octaves to separate MIDI channels so one sequence drives a harp, a guitar and a piano.

Worth knowing

Changing a major setting resets what has been generated, so a good sequence needs saving or recording first. The instrument it feeds needs an amplitude envelope, or notes hang.
