Midifruuze

What it does

A live MIDI sampler. Two lanes record the last ten seconds, minute or ten minutes of incoming MIDI, and playback markers dropped anywhere on a lane retrigger whatever passes under them. Each lane has its own playback mode: scrub pitch, scrub velocity, freeze, hit, scratch pitch and scratch velocity. Lanes can be cleared, copied across, paused on touch, and the original notes passed through or muted.

In the demo

Jade sends Melody Bud into it and out to PianoTeq in AUM at 30 BPM, holding markers in place to build pitched and velocity shifted echoes of what was played. She works through each playback mode, mixes freezes with scrub markers, then finishes with Octachron driving Drum Computer through it.

Worth knowing

What comes out depends on what feeds it, so it suits generative sources more than a fixed part, and dense settings pushed her DSP into overload on camera. It is also sold in a $7.99 App Store bundle with two other Nadzharov MIDI apps.
