What it does

A MIDI sequencer whose steps are maths functions. Each one is typed on a built-in calculator, where a is the root note of the current scale and x is the last note played, so x plus one walks up the scale and chained functions build longer runs. Sigma and pi add or multiply across the stored note history. Functions play in order and can be reordered, repeated or muted to make rests, under a toolbar holding key, scale and octave range. Rate, gate and velocity each get a variety dial, and a setting nudges the sequence when notes repeat too long.

In the demo

Jade clears the stock functions and rebuilds from a single note so each symbol is heard on its own, then saves patterns and switches between them. She ends with three instances driving piano, cello and guitar, all following BrainBud as she changes key and scale live.

Worth knowing

It sends MIDI only and ships no preset bank, so patches are saved in the host. Anyone wanting to draw a fixed melody will be fighting the functions.
