Fishtail

What it does

A generative MIDI instrument that composes whole multi-section pieces from theory-based algorithms rather than AI. You set a composer type such as counterpoint or fugue, choose voices, then build an arrangement of sections with their own key, mode, meter, cadence and expression contour. Generate produces takes that play in order over seven MIDI channels, with seven intonation systems and MPE output.

In the demo

Jade sends a single All output into Backrooms Piano, walks the structure, arrangement, feel and intonation panels, and generates takes. She then builds a four-voice setup across piano, strings and a chime instrument and lets the takes hand over one to the next.

Worth knowing

Most settings only apply at the next take boundary, and takes cannot be deleted from the list. Jade found the manual hard to follow. This suits ambient and experimental work far more than beat-driven music.
