Elastic OSC

What it does

A synth built on the DSP of the Mutable Instruments Plaits Eurorack oscillator. One of 24 models is active at a time, covering virtual analog, wave shaping, two and six operator FM, granular formant, additive, wavetable, chords, string and modal physical modelling, filtered and particle noise, chiptune, plus separate bass drum, snare and hi-hat models. Where the hardware was monophonic this adds polyphony, an arpeggiator, a motion recorder that loops knob movement, and a distortion, filter, modulation, delay and reverb chain with an always-on limiter.

In the demo

Jade opens with a finished track in AUM, then works through every oscillator model in turn, animating timbre, morph and frequency with the motion recorder running so the changes keep playing back.

Worth knowing

Only one model loads per instance, so covering several means several instances. The hint panel documents each model, which helps if Eurorack terminology is unfamiliar. Free updates have since added LFOs, three of them as an in-app purchase, and a DX7 bank: new factory patches, import of DX7 cartridge files into the six operator FM models, a linked generator that invents a cartridge, and wavetable import.
