Dead Kitty

What it does

A high gain amp sim aimed at British voiced modern metal, developed with the Polish guitar channel FOG. Two channels, clean and lead, run into a three band EQ with an extra air control, and one large gain knob shaped like a cat skull sets the drive. Two cabinet impulse responses are built in, Worms and Bones, with an output level and nothing else to configure. It runs standalone or as an AUv3.

In the demo

Jade drops it onto panned lead guitars from her own album in Logic, then A and B tests the two IRs and the clean channel. She stacks it with Aurora DSP’s Rhino on a second song, layers two Dead Kitty tracks around her main centre guitars, and records live seven string takes into a new arrangement.

Worth knowing

There is no noise gate on board, so a separate gate belongs in front at these gain settings, and the two fixed IRs mean cabinet choices come from an external loader. A Mac and Windows version is sold separately by Aurora DSP.
