ddtctmcc

What it does

A 2D touch surface that sends MIDI CC rather than sound. Dragging a finger across the pad outputs an X value, a Y value and a touch on or off, each on a CC number and channel you set. Gestures record two ways: loop repeats the drawn path immediately, once holds it until triggered. A loop can be reversed, ping ponged, moved, rotated, scaled and flipped, and the paid version stacks several drawings as scenes with a transition time between them.

In the demo

Jade patches it into AUM and maps the X axis to a synth’s pitch and the Y axis to its filter cutoff, then narrows the output range to keep the sweep in check. She runs a second instance into another app, sets scenes to different speeds, and crossfades between drawings while several noise apps are modulated at once.

Worth knowing

A free version, ddtctmcc ff, leaves out layers and scenes. It makes no sound of its own, and it aims at experimental and noise work rather than tidy automation, so anyone wanting drawn curves locked to bars will want a different tool.
