Chordjam

What it does

A MIDI effect that makes no sound of its own. A single key press becomes a chord in a chosen key, scale and chord type, and separate lanes control voicing, velocity, note timing and arpeggiation, each with its own randomizer and lock. Below those, a sequencer runs chords drawn in by hand or generated from song presets, and a pad page holds chords played in. This update adds a redesigned pack browser, importable packs, and Bend, an MPE-style slide between chords.

In the demo

Jade runs it in AUM into PianoTeq and Cinematics, downloads a free expansion from Audiomodern’s site and imports the zip, then walks each lane. She plays through the hip hop, funk and cinematic packs and stacks two instances filling each other’s gaps.

Worth knowing

Bend is built for MPE controllers, so a standard keyboard shows only part of it. Expansion packs come from Audiomodern’s site rather than the App Store, each priced on its own, and install as a zip. An earlier episode, EP 295, is the fuller walkthrough of the three pages. Utopia and NEON, two of the packs, each get a later demo.
